04/19/2009 - Berlin, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Hertha Berlin came back from a goal down at halftime to beat Werder Bremen, 2-1 at Olympiastadion on Sunday.
Per Mertesacker put Bremen in front two minutes before halftime, but Josip Simunic equalized in the 71st minute before a deflected effort from Rafael with three minutes to play beat Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese.
The win moves Hertha into fourth place, five points back of leaders Wolfsburg, and they are only two points adrift of a spot in the top three.
Hertha threatened to grab the lead in the first three minutes as Gojko Kacar fired just over from the top of the box, while 20 minutes later Cicero nodded a ball off the post.
The rest of the half was controlled by Bremen as Frank Baumann clipped a shot over the net from the middle of the box while Alexandros Tziolis was open at the back post but watched the ball hit his chest and go harmlessly out of play.
Claudio Pizarro nodded the ball down for Sebastian Prodl to smash on goal, but goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny was able to parry the effort.
However, the keeper was unable to keep out a corner kick two minutes later that gave Bremen the lead at the break.
The ball was driven into the six-yard box and was bundled home by Mertesacker despite the efforts of two Hertha defenders.
The hosts stayed within a goal throughout the second half and with 19 minutes to play, they were able to level the match.
Pal Dardai was played down the left wing and he reached the ball near the end line and pulled it back for Simunic, who sent an angled header off the fingertips of Wiese and into the top right corner.
Hertha continued to push for a second goal and they nearly found it when Amine Chermiti nodded the ball off the post, but he would play a big part in the team's goal in the 87th minute.
Chermiti stole the ball from Naldo in midfield and slid a pass to Rafael who fired a shot from the top of the box that took a slight deflection and looped over the head of Wiese and into the net.
Sunday's other match saw Hamburg regain third place with a 2-1 win over Hannover.
Mladen Petric scored twice for Hamburg to give his side a 2-0 lead before Mikael Forssell converted from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to play.
Hamburg now trails Wolfsburg by three points, while Hannover remains six points above the bottom three.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
